‘My School already uses the SP Educational Assessments. After taking part in trials of the new software program, I am delighted with it. It tells me so much more about which concepts my children are struggling with and it is great for targeting my planning effectively. As maths co-ordinator, feedback from colleagues is extremely positive, especially regarding the time it saves when assessing pupils’ progress. I wholeheartedly recommend this product to colleagues.’

The Year 6 SP Assessment Analysis Program complements the SP Educational Services Assessments which support a school's Assessing Pupils' Progress Strategy for mathematics. The program is an invaluable tool when using the SP Educational Services Assessments.

Once the results from the assessments have been entered into the program using the simple drop down boxes on the data entry page, the Year 6 SP Assessment Analysis Program will:

  • analyse the performance of pupils against the objectives of the Renewed Framework, highlighting which objectives need further reinforcement and where any gaps in learning may have occurred. This process underpins the principles of effective AfL.
  • provide APP analysis for every child. It gives teachers an excellent starting point when assessing pupils' progress - this can then be built on using a variety of sources such as annotated work from maths lessons, post it notes, pupil observations etc. Below is an example of a child’s highlighted APP grid for Ma2:
  • The grids are colour coded to make it easier to track progress throughout the year - Yellow (Unit 1), Green (Unit 2) and Blue (Unit 3). Teachers can manually highlight the APP grids and add comments linked to the highlighted cells, referencing other sources of work that have formed their pupil assessment i.e. observational notes made during work and teacher / pupil discussions etc. The Year 6 SP Assessment Analysis Program will:

  • provide diagnostic information about the strengths and weaknesses for every child for the 7 strands of mathematics and in doing so, facilitate teaching that is matched to pupils' needs.
  • The Year 6 SP Assessment Analysis Program has classified each question into one of the 7 mathematical strands - Using and applying, Counting and understanding number, Knowing and using number facts, Calculating (solving numerical problems), Understanding shape, Measuring and Handling data. These strands relate to the objective of each question. Using the data from the strand analysis, a graph is produced for each child for the 7 mathematical strands. Below is an example of a child’s strand analysis graph:

The columns in the bar charts are colour coded; each column represents a particular unit - Blue = Unit 1, Green = Unit 2, Red = Unit 3 (Chloe had some gaps in understanding for Understanding shape in Unit 1 but excelled in her work on Calculating (solving numerical problems) in Unit 1, for example.)

The Year 6 SP Assessment Analysis Program will also:

  • use data from the strand analysis, to produce a graph showing how each pupil in the class has performed for each strand of mathematics in comparison with the class group.

  • comprehensively track pupils' progress, providing a National Curriculum level for each unit and end of year. The levels are traffic light coded; this makes it easy to identify children working within or above the expected level (green), just below the expected level (yellow) or well below the expected level (red).
  • provide whole school data analysis - the mathematics subject leader can use the pupil and class graphs to identify whole school areas for improvement or development. This enables the setting of meaningful curricular targets for the whole school.
